Ohio heavy shapeshifters The Plot In You are about to hit Australia hard – and judging by the ticket rush, it’s shaping up to be one of the most feral metalcore runs of the summer. With all shows bar Melbourne now sold out – and Melbourne upgraded thanks to sweltering demand – the band are rolling into Fremantle, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane from this week alongside Fit For A King, Boundaries and Banks Arcade.
Ahead of the tour, we asked frontman Landon Tewers to run us through his favourite The Plot In You songs to play live – the tracks that make the room explode, the ones that create real crowd moments, and the deep cuts that feel special to bring back into the set. From violent singalongs to goosebump-inducing emotional climaxes (and even a surprise Frank Ocean detour), these are the songs Landon can’t wait to unleash on Aussie stages – straight from the source. Read his words down below.
The Plot In You – ‘Spare Me’
1. ‘Don’t Look Away’
LT: “My first favourite song to play live would be Don’t Look Away. It’s a newer heavy song that I probably spent the most time working on out of all of the songs, and it’s still fun to play it. It’s super high energy, people are kind of violent and scary to it sometimes – but in a fun way.”
2. ‘Forgotten’
LT: “Forgotten would definitely be a second favourite. There’s a moment in that song that fans tend to get very excited about, and are very included on. It’s more of a crowd moment than even a band moment, which is cool. We’ve nearly really had anything like that in the past.”
3. ‘Been Here Before’
LT: “Another favourite for me would be Been Here Before, it’s probably the fastest, most high energy song, but it’s also the most “rock” song we’ve ever written, and then the end of it is kind of just like a Frank Ocean song for a minute and a half, which is cool. I’ve always wanted to incorporate something like that into our set. It’s a totally different vibe from anything else in our entire set.”
4. ‘Left Behind’
LT: “Next up would be Left Behind. That’s definitely another fan favourite, I think people really cling onto that one emotionally. It just has an emotional feel to it that is very different to any other song in the set.”
5. ‘Troll’
LT: “And lastly, we have this song called Troll, it’s a super, super old song. It’s off our second record, and we brought it back for one tour about two years ago. It feels so immature and stupid to be in our set, but it was just such a fun moment to play something so old again that just felt so buried in the past. It was fun to bring something back and to also realise that almost none of our fans even knew what it even was, that’s how old it was! Almost nobody knew the words. It was really interesting and fun to do that. And I think after we played that song on that tour, it started streaming better out of nowhere. So we were like: okay, that was a good move!”
