Love Letter To A Record: Rachael Fahim On Kacey Musgraves’ ‘Same Trailer, Different Park’

Many of us can link a certain album to pivotal moments in our lives. Whether it’s the first record you bought with your own money, the chord you first learnt to play on guitar, the song that soundtracked your first kiss, the album that got you those awkward and painful pubescent years or the one that set off light bulbs in your brain and inspired you to take a big leap of faith into the unknown – music is often the catalyst for change in our lives and can even help shape who we become.

In this Love Letter To A Record series, Music Feeds asks artists to reflect on their relationship with music and share with us stories about the effect music has had on their lives.

Rachael Fahim – Kacey Musgraves, Same Trailer, Different Park, (2013)

To me, you are such a beautifully structured album. Each song on you tells a different story and is a masterpiece with such meaningful lyrics. I could listen to you for hours and never get tired of hearing your melodies or lyrics.

You are the album that taught me that country music could be edgy and refreshing, a breath of fresh air.

Watching you being played live helped me understand the amount of love, sweat and tears that would’ve gone into creating you. I could see how much you were cared for and how meticulously each sentence would’ve been put together to bring you to life.

Your title reminds me of monotony, but now that I know you – you are far from monotonous, and you have so many layers. You are so much more than just a pretty face.

All my love, your vivid fan
Rachael Fahim

Rachael Fahim is the second-highest streamed female country artist in Australian history (after Kasey Chambers) and has over 11 million audio streams since the release of her ‘Iconic’ EP.

Following on from the release of her widely praised new single ‘Darts in the Dark’, the pop-country sensation has just revealed the accompanying music video – directed by Ben Develin and Benjamin Ling of Mude Media (Milan Ring, Taka Perry, A.GIRL).

“We went into this video just wanting to create something fun that gave a sense of the energy you would get from one of my live shows,” the artist explains.

“After being away from the stage for two years, I’ve spent a lot of time with my band working on building a live show that was festival ready and hoping that audiences will connect with that.”
