Melbourne’s Illy is currently in the middle of playing the biggest shows of his career as part of his national One For The Cities tour and we managed to catch him to ask about his massive year just before he was about to step into a gruelling seven hour rehearsal.
“It’s just such a nice way to finish off what’s been such a crazy album cycle and such a crazy year,” the MC tell Music Feeds’ Mike Hohnen. “It’s been non stop since mid-October last year when we started with the Like A Version and it really hasn’t stopped since then.”
The capital cities tour rounds what has been an epic twelve months for Illy which saw his fourth studio album Cinematic debut at number 4 on the ARIA album chart and was also recently re-released as Cinematic: Uncut with with six new tracks.
“I knew the album was good. I knew it was different and I wasn’t sure how that would be received because it was quite different to stuff I’ve put out before, ” explains Illy. “I didn’t know it would be as successful as it has been and I definitely didn’t think we would be talking about a re-release a year later.”
Once the tour’s over, Illy says he’s itching to get back into the studio for work on the next album, and he already has some ideas. “I think I’ll be able to top Cinematic.”
