Melbourne songwriter Daniel Trakell has unveiled the first single from his forthcoming 2019 album and it’s a beauty. Dubbed ‘Wisdom/Boredom’, the tune is a warm, layered and delicate ode to growing up and all the trials and test that come with it.
“Wisdom/Boredom is a song about the life-altering decisions which come with growing older,” says Trakell. “Choices which can seem mundane at first but change the course of our lives, and tough decisions which we agonise over but end up being of little consequence. Often we can’t realise the quality of our judgment until we look back with the wisdom of hindsight.”
The beautifully composed track was recorded in Nashville at Alex the Great Studio, the former stomping ground of fellow Australian troubadours Bob Evans and Missy Higgins. While the experience of recording in Nashville was a dream for Trakell, it wasn’t without its surprises. He explains, “During the mixing process it was discovered that despite the mix engineer’s best efforts some evangelical Christian radio (a real fire-and-brimstone style sermon) had come through the desk and made its way onto the bass track, which had to be re-recorded in Australia.“
Now mixed and unveiled, Daniel Trakell will be taking the single to the stage with a February residency at Melbourne’s Some Velvet Morning. See dates and details below.
