If Courtney Barnett had written a song for the Juno soundtrack, it would probably sound a lot like ‘Red Rocket’ by Harper Bloom.
The Melbourne-based, Perth-bred singer-songwriter’s latest single is a bright and stirring piece of indie-folk inspired by the journey to find happiness after losing someone close to you.
Produced by Steve Schram and David Quested (Paul Kelly, San Cisco, Jagua Jonze) and mastered by Grammy award nominee Joe Carra (The Teskey Brothers), the tune delves into dealing with loss in a positive way, with Bloom’s signature Aussie drawl buoyed by a burst of ukulele, piano, minimalist percussion and horns.
“A Red Rocket is a symbol of an indent someone has left in your life that you hold onto for comfort,” the artist explains.
“This song navigates grief but it’s also a celebration of how lucky we are to have had a chance to know someone so special – no matter how brief that encounter may be.”
