The Kite String Tangle (aka Danny Harley) takes us inside ‘Vessel’, his debut EP which dropped in early August.
The Kite String Tangle kicks off a lengthy tour in support of ‘Vessel’ on Wednesday, 20th August – details below. The Kite String Tangle has also been announced on the lineup for Falls Festival 2014/2015 and Southbound 2015.
10 Things You Didn’t Know About The Kite String Tangle’s New EP
1. It was written over a couple of years. Not consistently working away at crafting these 6 songs into this EP but the tracks were written over a lifespan of about 2 years (which is probably too long to be writing music for one release).
2. The guy that did the artwork for the EP (Francisco) is from Argentina and I’ve never met him but I’m a fan of his work.
3. It’s my first ever release on a label, let alone a major label. It could be the greatest or worst decision I ever make.
4. The song What’s The Point? was written for a friend’s short film and only surfaced a year later because my friends kept telling me that they liked the track and that it should go on the EP. I never liked it heaps.
5. I’m not a fan of the chorus lyrics to Given The Chance. If I knew it were going to go well at all I would have definitely thought about them more. Although it is nice when I see other people have made their own interpretations of them.
6. Arcadia used to be called Headlines and had a completely different chorus to the one it has now. It changed about a couple of nights before I went into a studio to mix it.
7. The record was recorded in Brisbane in my home studio and parts in L.A when I was over for SXSW. I got to use a really epic studio and it was fairly insane.
8. The track Stone Cold came about because a girl (Tiana Khasi) came up to me after one of my first ever gigs and said she liked my set and mentioned she was a singer so I said we should write a song together. We did that and it was written in about a day.
9. The song Words was the only song on the EP that started as a jam in rehearsal room. All the others started on a laptop.
10. The song What If was originally recorded on my iPhone as just a vocal acapella about a year ago.
