If you’re a fan of guitars and food, life’s staples, you’re no doubt excited, as are we, about Brisbane’s impending Blurst Of Times festival, set to venture down south for the first time this year to Sydney and Melbourne for the event’s sophomore instalment.
Set to make its 2014 debut in Brisbane this coming Saturday 18th October before making its way to Melbourne and Sydney, the event’s killer lineup will feature sets from DZ Deathrays, Hard Ons, Dick Diver, Jeremy Neale, Orphans Orphans, Super Best Friends, Bloods, Babaganouj, and many more. Not to mention all-important festival food menus provided by some of the country’s most craved establishments.
All that information should be enough to get you blursting at the seems with excitement, but for the uninitiated or just the down-right curious, one nagging question remains. What even is a Blurst Of Times?
To answer that we’ve enlisted the help of some of the artists on the Blurst lineup who have been gracious enough to share with you, dear readers, exactly what Blurst Of Times means to them. From film analogies to poetry to DIY videos, these Blurst arstist have covered all bases to ensure you’re up on all things Blurst before the festivities get under way.
Let the Blurst times roll.
Jeremy Neale
Blurst Of Times can be summed up really conveniently by comparing it to a scene in a movie I’m currently directing.
It’s a sequel to the 1984 Tom Hanks’ classic Bachelor Party called Re-Bachelor Party where the year is now 1988 and Hanks has got a hankering for some sweet Bachelor Party action. It’s been a quiet 4 years without shenanigans and he feels it could be the only way to connect with his friends once more.
Anyways, there’s this scene that happens after he convinces his wife that for one night they should relive the glory by both pursuing an adventure reminiscent of pre-wedding debauchery (be on the look out for the release of sister movie Hens Night). Just as Tom Hanks is about to enter the strip club he realises that he doesn’t want to be there. He only ever wanted to rock. And he mistook those feelings for wanting freedom from matrimony.
He races home. His wife knew all along. She’s totally rocking out on drums and then he picks up a guitar and wails for like 20 minutes and then they’re more in love than ever.
And that’s what Blurst Of Times means to me.

Babaganouj
Blurst Of Times is like school camp, but with alcohol and no grown ups, and there’s no pointless hike up some stupid mountain. Except for the allegorical ‘stupid mountain’ which is playing the drinking game Wizard’s Staff for no reason. That’s a hard mountain to climb.
Watch: Babaganouj – Bluff
Bloods
Blurst Of Times means a good time with some of our best buds, cold beer and sweaty bodies. Never have so many bloody legends been in one room, so we are pretty damn excited to get loose and let the Blurst lead us.
