Skipping Girl Vinegar, Excelsior Hotel – 18/02/10

Celebrating the launch of their new single ‘One Long Week’, Skipping Girl Vinegar decided to take on a massive East Coast tour. Stopping in on Sydney twice, tonight was the second of their Sydney shows. The crowd was small, which made the environment feel like we were watching friends play at a house party, and it was clear that we were just about the only people in the city who didn’t go to AC/DC!!

Joined on stage once again by the lovely Kel on violin, the Melbourne four piece serenaded us with the songs we love from their the debut album Sift The Noise with a good taste of what is to come when the new album lands in the coming months. The new songs still carry that breezy feel, if not touching on the darker side while maintaining the essence that is Skipping Girl Vinegar songs. Mark was in a chatty mood, telling us about his love affair with second hand junk, swimming fully clothed in Noosa and trying to encourage the crowd to do Accadacca style fist pumps during the final song ‘Sift The Noise’. Once again, Amanthi baked up a storm. This time chocolate fudge, which was delicious. Again how can you not love a band that bakes for their audience!!

The thing I love most about this band is that you can honestly see and feel the love that they have for their music. In all the times I have seen them play, never have they played a bad show. I doubt they’ve even played a bad note. They are always engaging, entertaining and honest. In a industry of hyped up ego rock stars, it makes you appreciate sincerity and an true artists when they do come along.
