Melbourne Nine Inch Nails are about to get spoiled, when a world-exclusive gallery exhibition dedicated to the industrial rock legends opens its doors next month. The ‘Behind The Gallery’ event will feature dozens of iconic photos taken by award-winning documentary and feature film writer/director Jonathan Rach during the bands’ Self Destruct tour between the years of 1994 and 1997.
The snaps, some of which have never been seen before, will go on show for the very first time from Wednesday, 6th March through til Friday, 10th March at Melbourne’s 524 Flinders Street, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of Nine Inch Nails’ seminal album, The Downward Spiral.

Fans are invited to celebrate the LP’s big milestone at the gallery on Friday, 8th March, and can also pop by on the Saturday (9th March) for a very special artist talk with the photographer himself, Jonathan Rach, from 12.30pm.
“I was witnessing truly honest and iconic moments in music history. The result is what will be on display in Melbourne,” Rach said in a press statement about the landmark event.
A total of 45 images will be on display at the Melbourne gallery, showcasing an array of personal and pivotal moments from Trent Reznor and co’s extensive world tour, including their time in Australia.
The collection will also feature photographs of other famous artists including David Bowie and Lou Reed, capturing moments from their ground-breaking 6-night run at Hollywood’s Palladium in 2018.
The man responsible for the world-first event, Behind The Gallery’s Creative Director and Nine Inch Nails fan Stephen Dallimore, said he was “extremely honoured to be trusted to showcase this collection of photographs for the Nine Inch Nails community”.
“Jonathan’s images provide a rare insight into one of music’s most important artists and celebrated tours in music culture,” he said in a press statement. “We look forward to creating a special event for the fans and collectors, this is not to be missed!”
