Last week, A$AP Rocky was charged with assault over his involvement in an altercation in Stockholm, Sweden earlier this month. He will remain in custody until his upcoming trial, a date for which has not yet been set.
Now, according to an affidavit, a woman upset about the rapper’s detention in Sweden has vandalised the Swedish Embassy in Washington, D.C. earlier in the week. Documents say the suspect, Rebecca Kanter, approached the embassy and created a chaotic scene, cursing and screaming at embassy staff, kicking over a display and furniture. Earlier in the week, Kanter allegedly visited the same embassy, throwing liquid at it from a Coca-Cola bottle and shouting “I’m going to blow this motherfucker up.”
Kanter was later arrested by Secret Service agents after she sat on the floor and refused to leave.
The affidavit also claims Kanter posted messages to social media about her protest, asking in one “[Why] aren’t I getting press for ASAP?”
As previously reported, Rocky was arrested on July 2nd after a street fight in Stockholm as footage emerged of Rocky and his crew throwing a man to the ground and attacking him. Rocky went on to share videos following the incident which show him and crew asking the men to walk away but being followed by them.
In one of the videos, a woman is heard telling Rocky’s crew that the men groped her and her girlfriend. “We don’t know these guys and we didn’t want trouble, they followed us for 4 blocks, and they were slapping girls butts who passed, give me a break” wrote Rocky in one of the video’s captions.
A number of fellow rappers and artists have called for Rocky’s release, including Tyler the Creator and Post Malone. Kanye and Kim Kardashian West reportedly lobbied American president Donald Trump about Rocky’s case, prompting Trump to begin a campaign for Rocky’s release.
Last week, Swedish prosecutors rejected Rocky’s claim of self-defence, and he was charged with assault.
As Politico reports, Kanter appeared last week before a U.S. Magistrate judge, and was released facing preliminary charges of wilfully injuring and damaging property of a foreign government, along with refusing to depart a foreign embassy.
