AC/DC Are Pulling A Daft Punk For Their Album Launch

Rock legends AC/DC are on the cusp of releasing their new album, Rock or Bust, and in the lead up have decided to unveil the record in a manner similar to French electronic duo Daft Punk. That is, AC/DC will hold the official global launch of their 16th studio album in a small, rural Australian town, aptly called The Rock.

Boasting a population of under 1000, the small town with the big name, can be found in New South Wales, near Wagga Wagga. That population is sure to soar for a few hours on Sunday, November 23rd when the worldwide launch of AC\DC’s Rock or Bust is held at The Rock’s Market Day starting at around noon.

According to The Eastern Riverina Chronicle, the band will not be in attendance at the launch, but those that are will be given the opportunity to be among the first in the world to listen to the new album before it is officially released on Friday, November 28th.

Lockhart Shire Council’s Tourism and Economic Development officer, Jennifer Connor said Sony Music and Alberts had chosen The Rock for the launch venue. The Rock Markets will open at 8am on the day and pre-orders for the album can be made between noon and 2pm. A range of AC/DC merchandise will also be available for purchase.

The move follows a similar one made by Daft Punk in 2013, who held the global launch of their chart-topping Random Access Memories in the NSW regional town of Wee Waa.

Rock or Bust is the first album AC/DC has produced since founding guitarist Malcolm Young left due to health issues, with his family later confirming he is suffering from dementia. Malcolm Young’s nephew Stevie filled in for his uncle in the studio and is expected to take his place on the road if and when AC\DC head out on a world tour following the album’s release.
