British singer Adele made headlines by pausing her concert in Munich to air the women’s 100-metre final from the 2024 Summer Olympics. The race, held in Paris, was shared on the big screen for over 75,000 fans at the custom-built Adele Arena, where her 10-night residency had just begun.
A fan-captured video posted on X showed Adele halting her performance to focus on the race. The Munich crowd fell silent as Julien Alfred, representing the Caribbean island of Saint Lucia, sprinted to victory, earning her country its first-ever Olympic gold medal. American athletes Sha’Carri Richardson and Melissa Jefferson followed closely, securing silver and bronze medals, respectively.

After the race, Adele congratulated Alfred, saying, “Let’s give her a round of applause! Fantastic, Saint Lucia!” Her gesture was met with cheers and applause from the audience, highlighting the shared excitement for the Olympic spirit.
Adele had also expressed her admiration for the Olympics during the opening night of her mini-residency on Friday. She humorously compared her own physical abilities to those of the athletes, joking, “While I was watching world-class athletes, I’d be like, ‘Oh, that landing was a bit dodgy, wasn’t it? Oh, her legs weren’t really straight.’ Meanwhile, if I tried anything that they do, I’d be dead.”
During the concert, Adele also honored American gymnast Simone Biles, praising her for winning multiple gold medals and calling her “absolutely brilliant.”
Adele’s Olympic enthusiasm added a unique and memorable touch to her performance, creating a special moment for her fans and celebrating her athletic achievements.
