Adele Is Rumoured To Be Signing One Of The Most Expensive Record Deals In Music History

Adele is reportedly close to signing a $180 million contract with Sony Records which would mark one of the most expensive deals in music history.

The British singer has been signed to independent label XL Records since her debut 19, a deal which expired with the release of her latest record 25. The Sun is now reporting that she’s looking to jump ship for a mammoth price tag.

XL Records is home to Radiohead, Vampire Weekend and FKA twigs but Adele is by far their highest selling artist. Signing with Sony would see her join other big names like Calvin Harris, Britney Spears and Mariah Carey.

If she signs the contract it will become the most expensive record contract signed by a British musician ever eclipsing the $160 million price attached to Robbie Williams 2002 contract with Sony Music. The most expensive deal in music history was a $330 million contract signed between Sony and Michael Jackson’s estate in 2010, a year after his death.

Adele’s massive price tag makes sense. She’s one of music’s most profitable performers on the planet right now. Her second album 21 sold over 30 million copies worldwide and she proved it was no fluke with last year’s follow-up 25 which has sold close to 20 million copies.

Adele, who is currently on a worldwide sold out tour, is already worth $170 million but she could be worth much more if she puts pen to paper on this deal with Sony.

In other news, Adele debuted the visual for her latest single Send My Love (To Your New Lover) at the Billboard Music Awards and you can peep it below.
