Angus & Julia Stone haven’t released an album since 2017’s Snow, but now the sibling duo have announced their return in the form of a soundtrack for video game series Life Is Strange.
The duo composed the score for the latest instalment in the series, Life Is Strange: True Colors, which is set to arrive next month. The soundtrack, which will mark the duo’s fifth studio album overall, is set to arrive this Friday, 20th August.
According to a press release, the album was made over the last few years while the pair weren’t working on their respective solo projects – Julia released solo album Sixty Summers in April of this year, while Angus’ latest Dope Lemon album Smooth Big Cat was released in 2019. The album was recorded at the studio on Angus’ farm, Stonecutters, along with Boulder, Colorado (where the video game was developed) and Neil Finn’s studio in Auckland, New Zealand.
“I really like this record because it’s a real mix of the old and the new,” Julia Stone commented in a statement. “I can hear how, on this record, we weren’t afraid to try, to follow our noses and not to force any direction that it went. It didn’t matter that there was a really folky song next to a really dancy song. I can hear it feeling very free.”
“Things in our lives keep happening that bring us back together without us planning,” Angus added. “It’s almost like the universe pulling us, calling us, back together.”
