Speaking to Madison.com, Animal Collective‘s Avey Tare has let slip that the band have started working on new material, with plans to record set for January of next year. “We just finished another two weeks of writing sessions and put together five new songs,” he said of working with Panda Bear, Geologist and Deakin again. “We’re really excited about this record… and it’s been really fun jamming with those guys again.”
Speculation about the inevitable release of the album has been building following the band’s performances at various festivals earlier in the year where they played a sprinkling of as-yet-unheard new material. Rumours were rife for an end of year release, but were soon quashed with the release of Panda Bear’s solo ablum Tomboy as well as Avey Tare’s own solo tour this December. News that the band are set to record in January though is sure to light up the cherub like faces of their fans, with most expecting a release before the end of 2012.
