Calling all Doctors Jones or otherwise – wake up now! Danish pop sensations Aqua have announced they will return to Australia this October for a greatest hits tour. The ’90s pop wonders will be hitting up venues in Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne, and Fremantle for the first time since their acclaimed 2012 tour, when they sold out 11 shows around the country.
Aqua owned airwaves and charts across the globe in 1997, with an ongoing string of hits that proved to be some of the most enduring pop tracks of the ’90s. The group’s feel-good dance-pop sound imprinted classics like Barbie Girl and Doctor Jones onto the hearts and minds of millions.
The group formed in 1989 after Claus Norreen and Søren Rasted started writing together, hooking up with keyboardist René Dif and later vocalist Lene Nystrøm. Initially called Joyspeed, the group developed a trademark bubblegum pop sound that would one day see them soaring up the charts.
With the release of their 1997 debut, Aquarium, their journey into the stratosphere truly began. The album yielded several smash singles, including the group’s biggest hit, Barbie Girl. Remaining at the top of the ARIA charts for three weeks, it’s still one of the most iconic singles of the 1990s.
Aqua’s Greatest Hits Australian Tour will kick off on Friday, 31st October 2014 at Eatons Hill in Brisbane, criss-crossing the country before concluding at Metropolis in Fremantle on Wednesday, 5th November. Readers can check below for all the dates, as well as pre-sale and ticketing details.
