Singer-songwriter and Bundjalung descendant Budjerah has released the new single ‘Wash My Sorrows Away’.
It’s been a successful few weeks for Budjerah, who picked up Best New Talent at the National Indigenous Music Awards and the inaugural Michael Gudinski Breakthrough Artist of the Year award at the ARIAs.
The 19-year-old from Fingal Head, NSW is back with the new single ‘Wash My Sorrows Away’, released today via Warner Music Australia.
“’Wash My Sorrows Away’ is my teenage heartbreak song. Everyone has tough times and we all have our own ways of dealing with sadness, and this song tells what it’s like for me when I’m in those situations,” said Budjerah.
Matt Corby produced and co-wrote the new single, a role he also took on Budjerah’s debut self-titled EP, released in March 2021, as well as the recent single, ‘Talk’ ft. MAY-A. ‘Wash My Sorrows Away’ is a soulful composition that shows off Budjerah’s unique vocal gifts.
2021 has been a breakout year for the Coodjinburra man from the north coast of NSW. The EP’s opening track, ‘Missing You’, became triple j’s most played track in October. He also teamed up with PNAU on the single ‘Stranger Love’, which came out in May.
He’ll be joining Vance Joy on tour in the US and Australia in 2022. “It was always my dream come true to perform to hundreds of people, and now it’s right in front of me,” Budjerah said. Listen to ‘Wash My Sorrows Away’ below.
