It’s the end of an era for one of Melbourne’s most exciting modern heavy bands. After eight years together, alternative metal outfit The Last Martyr have announced they’re calling it quits, bringing an end to a run that saw them become one of the country’s most promising heavy acts through a string of acclaimed releases, major festival appearances and relentless touring.
The band shared the news in an emotional statement posted to social media, describing the decision as “one of the hardest” they’ve ever had to make.
The Last Martyr – ‘RIP’
“It’s been difficult to find the words for this post… but after 8 years, The Last Martyr have decided to disband. This has been one of the hardest decisions we’ve ever had to make,” their statement reads.
“This band has been such a large and important piece of our lives for the best part of a decade and we couldn’t have done all the things we have without you. We want to first and foremost thank our fans for your support and for helping us create amazing memories the last few years. You truly mean so much to us.”
Blending crushing metalcore with cyberpop flourishes and razor-sharp hooks, The Last Martyr spent the past decade carving out a unique lane in Australia’s heavy scene. Across releases including 2024’s blistering Requiem EP, the quartet built a loyal following while sharing stages with the likes of Burton C. Bell, Story Of The Year and Behind Crimson Eyes.
They also appeared at festivals including UNIFY Forever, BIGSOUND and Froth & Fury, while helping introduce younger heavy music fans to Australia’s next generation of bands through events like In Peril Fest.
Rather than disappearing quietly, however, The Last Martyr have signed off with one final release: the swaggering new single, ‘RIP’.
While it’s the end of the road for The Last Martyr, if ‘RIP’ proves anything, it’s that they leave behind a catalogue that’s likely to keep finding new fans long after the curtain has fallen.
Take it for a spin up above.
