Azealia Banks Vows To Leak Debut Album

Notoriously confrontational and outspoken rapper Azealia Banks has vowed to begin leaking her long-delayed debut album, Broke With Expensive Taste, from 15th April—one day before its last confirmed release date. The album was originally slated to be unveiled back in September 2012.

Taking to Twitter, the launchpad for many of her various verbal projectiles over the years, the Harlem rapper revealed the news in a terse post that read, “Album leaks starting April 15th.” The announcement follows multiple expressions of frustration with her record label, Universal.

“I’m tired of having to consult a group of old white guys about my black girl craft. They don’t even know what they’re listening for or to,” she tweeted back in January. “I’m literally begging to be dropped from Universal.” The rapper said she needed a label “who knows what to do with me.”

In September 2013, Banks indicated that the album would be released the following January. It now appears she’s taken a cue from former sparring partner Angel Haze, whose frustrations with her labels, Island and Republic, saw her leak her debut, Dirty Gold, last December.
