Bareback Titty Squad — those mostly naked lads who played an entire triple j Hottest 100 in 30 minutes — are reanimating for their most ambitious endeavour yet, a project the Melbourne trio have dubbed The Bareback World Of Disney.
This time around BBTS have teamed up with Holy Holy guitarist and producer Oscar Dawson to fearlessly venture into a whole new world of nostalgic tunes and potential law suits, embarking on what they call their “most timeless, confronting and down-right excessive megamix yet”.
Their latest effort will see guitarist Miles de Carteret, bassist Callum Padgham and drummer Carey Watkins tackle 28 Disney songs in 10 minutes — that’s an average of 22.5 seconds per track, if you’re keeping score — taking each Mouse House classic, “flipping it on its arse and giving it the Titty treatment”
Callum says the inspiration for the new project spawned from a rigorous, intoxicated study of their previous videos. Not only did they settle on a more truncated format — “the 30+ minute marathon is out the window for now… Ain’t nobody got time for that!” — they figured they’d be best served going all out, and aiming straight for the heart.
“If you don’t like Disney, you’re certifiably evil,” says Callum. “Not only that but the songs are either that fucking good or they’re stupidly technical orchestral arrangements which suit our schtick to a tee.”
The biggest revelation, however, was when they realised they needed to get out of the studio for their videos. “There was something inherently foul about staring at that same sloppy rig and sweaty package in that same white room for minutes on end, and for that we are truly sorry. No, really, that shit was disgusting.” No arguments here.
By way of apology, the lads are packing their bags and taking the Titty Train to Toon Town. Or as close as they can muster, anyway, heading to different locations all across Victoria to replicate the settings of the songs they’re performing.
“Every time there’s a new song transition the background changes around us to reflect the movie that we’re covering… Aladdin? The desert. The Jungle Book? Titties be going jungle baby! The Lion King? You can bet we’re heading up pride rock, motherfuckers!”
They’ve already scaled a snowy mountain to shoot their teaser video, giving us a taste of the first few tunes against a beautiful icy backdrop. We’ll leave it up to you to guess which song this location is best suited. With more than 12 destinations to shoot throughout November, this is going to be one major undertaking.
BBTS will also be setting out on a national tour this summer, following the release of The Bareback World of Disney. Stay tuned for those dates soon.
