“Oh no, another boring memoir from a band past their prime,” said no one ever when discussing the recently announced memoirs from the surviving members of The Beastie Boys. The book even has the publishing house excited given the potential for awesomeness that Mike D and Ad-Rock hold.
The hip-hop group stuck the publishing deal with Spiegel & Grau who have stated that a title is yet to be confirmed but the book has a ballpark release date of of the later half of 2015. The New York Times have revealed that more details will be coming through from Spiegel & Grau in the coming days.
Speaking on behalf of the company, Julie Grau explained that the iconic musicians are “interested in challenging the form and making the book a multidimensional experience,” continuing to make the memoirs even more enticing by adding “There is a kaleidoscopic frame of reference, and it asks a reader to keep up.”
The copy will be edited by hip-hop journalist Sacha Jenkins but if you haven’t had enough time to read a book in years, don’t fret. The memoirs will have a strong visual element as well.
The group’s agent, Luke Janklow, has also spoken up about the news, explaining that “The first words out of Mike’s mouth were, “I don’t want to do a straight memoir.” Janklow added that this had been an idea of his for some time now, “After Yauch died, I didn’t push them, but I think that Adam and Mike ended up realizing that it was the right time for them.”
