Birds Of Tokyo Take On Halsey’s ‘Without Me’ For Like A Version

Old-school triple j faves, Birds Of Tokyo went along for triple j’s Like A Version this week. The Birds’ took on Halsey’s 2018 hit, ‘Without Me’.

They toned it down a bit with less dramatic instrumentals and gentler vocals. Then they played their own track ‘The Greatest Mistakes’ too, which they released just one week ago.

Choosing Halsey’s infectious track makes sense, given their affection for pop. In an interview with Music Feeds Birds Of Tokyo frontman, Ian Kenny told us, “We’ve always been interested in the songwriting of pop music – it’s something that we pay a lot of attention to, and we listen to it a lot.

“I’m fascinated by what goes into writing quality pop songs. It’s not easy, and when you get it right you get some spectacular results.

“We’re fans and we’re lovers of rock music, and that will always be where we started, but we’ve been so curious about the pop side of things that we just decided to put the effort in to really chase it.”

Birds Of Tokyo kick off their national tour next month, check out the dates here. Listen to their original and their cover down below.
