UPDATE 05/10/16: Bluesfest 2017 just got even bigger, with the addition of the legendary Neil Young act as the Byron Bay festival’s headline act.
The already monster lineup for Bluesfest 2017 just got even more monstrous, with the addition of a second batch of huge artists.
Six more acts have been added to next year’s bill, starting with US hip-hop kween Mary J. Blige.
“Yes, ‘the MOST successful R&B female artist of the past 25 years’ is coming,” confirms festival boss Peter Noble. “With over 50 million albums and 25 million singles sold, 32 Grammy nominations, with nine wins, the greatest female soul singer of our time is coming. Her performances are the stuff of legend. To say I am chuffed she is coming to Bluesfest, is an absolute understatement.”
Corinne Bailey Rae’s name has also been added to the formidable list of female artists already announced for the 2017 Byron Bay fest, together with rising star Michael Kiwanuka, soul collective Nahko and Medicine for the People, plus first-time performances by R&B awe-inspirer and Coachella 2016 conqueror Gallant and Houston’s award-winning 10-piece The Suffers.
“Think Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings, with a touch of Tabasco and Latino sounds. Another band whose live shows blitz, and who are sure to be a Bluesfest favourite,” explains Noble.
“We hope you like this announcement and we have loads more announcements coming. So, what are you waiting for, grab yourself a ticket to one of the Greatest Shows on Earth while you still can get them. We are already way past half sold out. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.”
The R&B/soul-flavoured second artist announcement comes on top of previously announced mega-acts including Zac Brown Band, Patti Smith, The Lumineers, Buddy Guy, Bonnie Raitt, Mavis Stapes, Jethro Tull and loads more.
Bluesfest will return to its usual home at Byron Bay’s Tyagarah Tree Farm over the Easter long weekend in April of next year.Catch the full lineup and ticketing details below.
