Shortly after surprise-dropping their first new album in 8 years, Brand New have broken fans’ hearts by revealing it was likely also their last.
The New York rockers have made it official, announcing plans to break-up at the end of 2018.
Rumours of their impending split have been rife, after the band sold merch containing the words ‘Brand New: 2000 — 2018’ in addition to hinting that they were “done”, but now frontman Jesse Lacey has spelled it out in plain English, telling fans at a recent live show: “We’re gonna be a band for about 14 more months, so thank you so much for being here tonight.”
The silver lining is, the band have still been announcing new tour dates across the US and UK, suggesting that they could well be gearing up for one final jaunt around the world behind their new album Science Fiction before they hang up their guitars for good #AustraliaPlz.
While we keep our fingers crossed, catch the footage of Lacey announcing Brand New’s official use-by date, below.
