British rock icon and former The Jam frontman Paul Weller has announced a pair of Australian tour dates for 2018.
The Modfather will make his way to Sydney for two huge shows at the Sydney Opera House in January, in what will be his only Aussie shows on his trip down under.
Weller will be heading to Australia in support of his 13th and latest solo album A King Of Revolution, which he’ll showcase alongside cuts from his huge back catalogue.
“It’s not often I get to program someone who’s changed my dress sense and been an influence since I was a teenager but Paul Weller is it,” says Sydney Opera Houses’ Head of Contemporary Music, Ben Marshall.
“I discovered The Jam along with The Clash and The Specials in my late teens’ discovery of punk/post-punk music and that band hit me hard. An older friend who’d been a scooter boy in the UK introduced me to Northern Soul, The Style Council & Weller’s then-new solo album Wild Wood and I was converted.
“Through his bands and his restless 25 years — and counting — solo career, Paul Weller’s impact on modern music is undisputed. It’s a genuine honour to welcome him to the Concert Hall for his Sydney Opera House debut performing his only two Australian shows.”
