Britney Spears Slams Christina Aguilera For Dodging Questions About Conservatorship

Earlier this month, Britney Spears was finally freed of the conservatorship that had controlled many aspects of her life – including her financial, romantic, social and professional independence – dating back to 2008.

Spears will soon share her side of the story in a tell-all interview with Oprah. In the meantime, however, she’s got a bone to pick with Christina Aguilera, her former co-star on The All-New Mickey Mouse Club in the early ’90s.

While speaking to reporters on the red carpet at the Latin Grammys in Las Vegas last week, Aguilera was asked, “Britney is… have you had any communication, have you guys had any communication?”

Just before the question was asked, Aguilera’s publicist had tried to wrap up the interview, saying “Thank you all so much. We’re going to go inside.”

So, when the question about Britney followed, Aguilera turned to her publicist, who intervened to say, “No, we’re not doing that tonight, I’m sorry. Thank you.”

Aguilera made a sad face and said, “I can’t, but I’m happy for her,” before being scooted away by her publicist. While it could be as simple as Aguilera not having enough time to speak on the issue at length, the clip soon went viral. Watching from afar, Britney was none too pleased, re-posting the clip to her Instagram stories with the caption:

“I love and adore everyone who supported me … But refusing to speak when you know the truth, is equivalent to a lie !!!! 13 years being in a corrupt abusive system yet why is it such a hard topic for people to talk about ??? I’m the one who went through it all !!!!”

Aguilera expressed solidarity with Britney in a Twitter post in June. And now, according to Cosmopolitan, a source close to Aguilera has said that while the pair are no longer close friends, “Christina would like to have a private chat with Britney to settle some issues that still clearly lie.”
