Britney Spears Clarifies No Shade Thrown at Blake Lively Over Dress Choice

Britney Spears’s team has reassured fans that the pop star has not thrown shade at actress Blake Lively. Rumors began circulating when Lively, known for her role in Gossip Girl, attended the New York premiere of her latest film, It Ends With Us, wearing a Versace dress first worn by Spears in 2002.

Over the weekend, Britney shared a video on social media of herself in an updated version of the same dress, expressing her love for it as it “shows my legs.” Initially, she captioned the video with, “I LIKE IT WAY BETTER.” However, she later updated it to say, “I’m no @blakelively but I like it,” and eventually deleted the caption entirely.

The original caption sparked speculation that Britney might be taking a jab at Blake. However, a spokesperson for Spears clarified to Page Six that there was no ill intent, stating, “She did not shade Blake and felt honored.”

Britney originally donned the iconic Versace dress during the Versace Spring/Summer 2003 presentation at Milan Fashion Week. Lively wore the same dress to her film premiere, where she paid tribute to Spears on Instagram.

In her post, Blake wrote, “The ultimate queen who made us all want to sparkle and write and tell our stories… Thank you for your example and your contribution to women telling their stories. So excited about your biopic and all you have to come.”

With this clarification, Britney’s team ensures that there is no feud between the two stars, highlighting the mutual respect and admiration between the pop icon and the actress.
