If you weren’t luck enough to catch any of former CAN vocalist Damo Suzuki and The Holy Soul‘s shows that have swept across our great nation, you’re in luck cos he lovely folks over at Repressed Records are releasing a live document of the shows, the first recorded document of over seven years of live collaborations between Damo and the band, the album titled, Dead Man Had No 2nd Chance.
Recorded at The Toff in Town in Melbourne in 2008, with The Holy Soul adding Dan Ludscombe (The Drones/Blackeyed Susans) on keys and electronic artist Peter Newman on electronics, the recording like all of Damo’s recent material is all composed in the moment, improvised, with the band members bouncing off each other, throwing ideas back and forth and then out to bring new ones in.
The recording touching on everything from Sleep-esque stoner metal to Bitches Brew era Miles Davis madness skirts categorisation, other than to say it’s rad and is the first release on the Repressed Records recrod label, so if you consider yourself a supporter of independent music in this city, trek our the Repressed Records on King St Newtown and grab a copy.
