Chappell Roan Reflects on Her Idolization of Miley Cyrus and Her Dream to Be Like Hannah Montana

Chappell Roan, the 26-year-old viral sensation, recently shared her admiration for Miley Cyrus and her iconic Disney Channel persona, Hannah Montana. Speaking at Miley’s Disney Legend induction ceremony, where the 31-year-old star became the youngest to receive the honor, Chappell recalled her first concert experience: the Best of Both Worlds tour featuring Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers.

Chappell reminisced, “Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana tour with Jonas Brothers opening was my first concert ever. She came down in a box from the ceiling. I was like, ‘How do I do that one day?’ I still think about it. I still think about the show. I want to be like Hannah Montana. There’s a lot of crossover between Miley and my project, and it’s just like, I’m such a fan too.”

Chappell was deeply influenced by Miley’s TV series Hannah Montana, which featured a teenage girl living a double life as a pop star. She expressed admiration for Miley’s ability to continually reinvent her style while maintaining authenticity. “The thing that I admire about Miley Cyrus is that she constantly reinvents herself and always works. She’s very open about her transformations artistically and personally, and she’s so true to herself. She puts out music that is so authentic,” Chappell noted.

Chappell also recounted her starstruck reaction when Miley invited her to a party. On Drew Afualo’s The Comment Section podcast, she shared, “Miley invited me to a party, and I was like, ‘You don’t know that you were my first concert when the Jonas Brothers were opening for you.’ I was in fourth grade, and when she came out I saw my friends start crying, and then little girls around us started crying, and I was like, ‘I guess I’ve gotta cry.’ I didn’t understand then why people were crying, but now I get it. I’m like, ‘Oh, because that was the coolest thing.’ It was so spiritual.”

Chappell Roan’s deep appreciation for Miley Cyrus and her journey reflects her own aspirations and the impact that early experiences with music and idols have had on her career.
