In some extremely sad news, former child star Quindon Tarver, best known for giving us the breathtaking rendition of Prince’s ‘When Doves Cry’ for the soundtrack of Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet film, has passed away at the age of 38.
The US singer, who also appeared as a choirboy in the iconic 1996 movie adaptation of the Shakespearean tragedy alongside superstars Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes, died in a car crash in Dallas last Friday.
“He had an accident — all we know is he had a wreck, crashed into a wall somewhere on George Bush [Turnpike],” Tarver’s uncle Willie Tarver confirmed in a statement to The Daily Beast. “That’s all the information I have.”
As well as appearing in Romeo + Juliet & and performing versions of both ‘When Doves Cry’ and Rozalla’s ‘Everybody’s Free’ for the film’s beloved soundtrack, Tarver also featured in Madonna’s music video for ‘Like A Prayer’ and participated as a contestant on two seasons of American Idol.
RIP.
