Childish Gambino (real name Donald Glover) has come good on the virtual reality talk surrounding his brand new album Awaken, My Love!. Our generation’s ultimate slashie has unveiled the official visuals for album single Me And Your Mama, which come as a 360° virtual reality experience of a live Gambino show.
The Me And Your Mama video (below) is a pretty immersive experience, and works with the PHAROS companion app. Gambino does his thing on stage, flanked by cohorts, but the most fun comes from watching the audience standing around you. Lifeless fools. They have no idea I’m right here.
The footage was compiled from Glover’s PHAROS shows, which is on par with comments from Glover that he wanted to take the event to the masses using Awaken, My Love! as the vehicle. That now makes a whole lot more sense than it did before the Me And Your Mama video.
Up until now, the only descriptor we had for his crazy scheme was the release of virtual reality vinyl for Awaken, My Love! — “A vinyl that you play with, like virtual reality,” as Glover succinctly explained to triple j.
It’s still not entirely clear what Gambino is planning with the greater virtual reality component of the ‘VR Vinyl’ he’s promised, but alright, you have our attention now, man.
