Tame Impala were up for this week’s instalment of triple j Like A Version. The LAV saw “all the Tame Impala live members who are in WA” perform, which is coincidentally the original three piece.
“I chose this song because I’ve always just loved it,” said Tame’s Kevin Parker in the Behind the Like A Version interview.
“I’ve always just thought it’s an incredible song. So simple and it’s just been that song that I’ve just heard throughout my life… It’s kind of just been there and every time I hear it, I fall in love with it.”
Kevin Parker reflected on the covers they’ve done like the Kylie Minogue’s ‘Confide In Me’ Like A Version and their Nelly Furtado cover.
It led to Parker saying he feels blessed that so many artists have covered his music in Like A Version. Arctic Monkeys, Ngaiire, and Meg Mac are some of the artists to take Tame Impala into the LAV studio.
“I’m so humbled any time someone decides to cover my music… It’s kind of just an amazing feeling,” says Parker.
“It’s sometimes difficult to listen to at first. I get kind of self conscious about my lyrics, other people having to sing my lyrics… In the back of my head I’m like ‘Oh they’re working out how simple it is’ or something.”
Parker and co also delivered their original ‘Breathe Deeper’.
Tame Impala cleaned up at the ARIA Awards this year, including the coveted Album of the Year award. They’re up for two awards at the 2021 GRAMMY Awards. Best Alternative Album with The Slow Rush and Best Rock Song for ‘Lost In Yesterday’.
