Bright Eyes frontman Conor Oberst has moved to reassure fans that he is not about to call time on the much-loved outfit just yet.
Oberst put the fear of god into the legions of Bright Eyes fans when he hinted in an interview with Rolling Stone in 2009 that he was thinking of disbanding. His words back then were, “It does feel like it needs to stop at some point. I’d like to clean it up, lock the door, say goodbye.”
However, the NME spoke to Oberst prior to Bright Eyes’ performance at the T In The Park Festival, where he said, “We don’t have any immediate plans, I guess, after this year… [But what I said] sounded pretty final, but I don’t remember the quote – you can look it up. I think I meant it that day…”
He added when asked if the band had any plans to split, “I don’t think so… We don’t really take anything off the table.”
Fellow bandmember and vital Bright Eyes cog Mike Mogis also said, “Hopefully we’ll come back over [to Europe], hopefully we’ll make another record.”
The band went on to play a memorable set at the Scottish Festival, with Oberst introducing the song Lover I Don’t Have To Love with the words, “This song’s about casual sex… I’d like to dedicate it to Chris Martin for the time he tried to suck my dick.”
The latest Bright Eyes album, their seventh in all, was The People’s Key, released in February of this year.
