Daft Punk, Vampire Weekend Early Winners At Grammys

New Zealand pop sensation Lorde may not have taken out the Hottest 100, but she’s the bookies’ favourite for Grammy Record Of The Year, with the 17-year-old at 8/11 to win the category with her smash Royals when the awards ceremony takes place later today.

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis have already taken out Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance for their hit Thrift Shop and Best Rap Album for The Heist, while Daft Punk have scored the nod for Best Dance/Electronica Album with Random Access Memories.

Best Alternative Music Album went to Vampire Weekend‘s Modern Vampires Of The City and Pharrell Williams has been named Producer Of The Year, while Aussies Hiatus Kaiyote and Keith Urban missed out on Best R&B Performance and Best Country Duo/Group Performance respectively.

There’s a star-studded list of acts performing live at the ceremony, including Lorde, Beyoncé and Jay-Z, Metallica, Katy Perry, Robin Thicke, Daft Punk, Pharrell and Nile Rodgers.

Dave Grohl, Nine Inch Nails, Queens Of The Stone Age and Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham will be forming a supergroup to give the closing performance, while surviving Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr will be appearing together, both to perform and accept a Lifetime Achievement Award on behalf of the legendary band.

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are set to perform their marriage equality anthem Same Love with Madonna while Queen Latifah simultaneously officiates 34 gay and straight wedding ceremonies live on stage. The stunt has drawn opposition from critics, but National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences president Neil Portnoy defended the mass nuptials:

“I expect that people with all kinds of opinions might voice them, and that’s healthy, but we don’t need to stoop to the level of trying to find gimmicks and sensationalistic approaches to what we do.”

The ceremony will also include a tribute to the musicians that passed away in 2013, with many notable Australians set to be acknowledged for their contributions to music – Chrissy Amphlett of Divinyls, Chris Bailey of The Angels/GANGgajang, M. Yunupingu of Yothu Yindi and Greg Quill.

UPDATE 1:40pm: Lorde has taken Best Pop Solo Performance for her mega hit Royals after a stunning live performance. Meanwhile Paul McCartney, Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear have been awarded Best Rock Song for the Sound City track Cut Me Some Slack. Updated list below.
