In honour of the one year anniversary of the death of former Deftones bassist Chi Cheng, the band have paid tribute to their friend by sharing the previously unreleased track Smile, taken from Eros, the album the band were working on with Cheng and later shelved following his tragic accident.
“Chi, We miss you today and everyday,” Frontman Chino Moreno wrote on Twitter. As a founding member of the outfit, Cheng passed away last year after spending over four years in a vegetative state, a result of his involvement in a serious car accident in November 2008.
On April 13th, 2013, Cheng was taken to the hospital after his heart suddenly stopped and was pronounced dead shortly after. The band has stated that they still intend to release Eros, on which Cheng features, at some point but haven’t disclosed when that will be.
