Domino Records To Launch New Radio Station

Domino Records, the now legendary London imprint who count the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Wild Beasts, Cass McCombs and Franz Ferdinand among their roster, have announced that they are to launch a special new radio station.

The Guardian reports that Radio Domino will draw on the spirit of the “John Peel Show, Radio Caroline and Rinse FM”, and will launch on June 6, featuring contributions from Domino artists such as Animal Collective, Robert Wyatt, Anna Calvi and former Beta Band man Steve Mason.

Label founder Laurence Bell said, “It is important for us to keep pushing ourselves. We don’t do these things to make money obviously. We do them because we want to contribute and because we enjoy representing creativity on different levels.”

He also said that preparing the ‘pop-up’ station was “a bit like running a marathon I imagine. You train all year and then the pistol fires and off you go.”

The station will also offer contributions from “tastemakers, instigators, thinkers and activists” such as Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie, Faris Badwan of The Horrors and Cat’s Eyes and Dennis Bovell.

A statement from Domino added that the station will offer “a dynamic schedule celebrating exhilarating alternative arts and music loaded with individuality, free expression and all manner of sounds from around the world”.

Full details of programming and shows will not be available until the launch itself.
