No, you’re not having deja vu. Reggae masterminds Easy Star All-Stars have announced that they will be returning to our shores for the 2nd time in the past 12 months, bringing with them some rastafied renditions we’ve yet to see live.
This time round, the small-crowd of a band will be performing tracks off Easy Star’s Thrillah, their re-imagined record inspired by Michael Jackson’s Thriller. The set will include an eight-minute Afrobeat infused Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’, a far more groovier Billy Jean as well as a funky, roots, dirge jam of Beat It. Not to mention all the others.
The live experience features a band comprised of some of the most respected and virtuous musicians in the genre. So vivid is their live setting that the band was nomiated for the UK Festival Award, and played three days at Glastonbury Festival in 2009 over three stages.
During their previous Aussie tour run, the Easy Stars showcased their well-crafted tributes to Dark Side of the Moon, Sgt. Pepper’s and OK Computer.
