You wouldn’t expect a maiden full-length album from a burgeoning songstress to be able to outmuscle the entire back catalogue of The Beatles, but here we are. Emeli Sandé’s stunning debut Our Version Of Events has clocked a total of 63 weeks in the UK top 10 charts, a week longer than The Beatles who managed to keep it together for 62.
Our Versions Of Events hasn’t left the UK top 10 since its release in February 2012. The last time anything like this has happened was back in 1963 when The Beatles stuck around with Please Please Me, which was getting flogged well into 1964.
The weight of the situation isn’t lost on Sandé, who was shocked to say the least:
“I’m completely lost for words and this is something I could only have dreamed of. The Beatles are the greatest band of all time and their legacy lives on and continues to inspire all of us that make music. I’m so happy that so many people have connected with the stories and the songs on the record, this really is our version of events now.”
Now sitting at a safe #5 on the charts, Our Version Of Events managed to keep pole position for a massive 10 weeks. Since its release, the record has shifted 1.82 million units, earning it the title of the most-pumped album of 2012 with every sign indicating it could retain the title for 2013.
