Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart are getting the Eurythmics back together, with the pair reuniting to play a post-Grammys tribute to The Beatles, alongside John Mayer, Keith Urban, Alicia Keys, John Legend and Maroon 5.
The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute to the Beatles will be recorded a day after the Grammy Awards on 27th January, with producer Ken Ehrlich saying that he thought the synthpop duo would be perfect to honour the Fab Four:
“When it came around to booking this show, what I felt was important was to try and find those artists who not only would be able to interpret Beatles songs, but would also have an … understanding of what they meant.”
He wouldn’t disclose which Beatles song the pair would be playing, but said that Keys and Legend will be covering Let It Be, while Mayer and Urban are teaming up to take on Don’t Let Me Down. The special will air on 9th February in the US, commemorating the 50 year anniversary of The Beatles’ American debut on The Ed Sullivan Show.
The Eurythmics, best known for their hits like Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of These) and Here Comes The Rain Again, disbanded for the first time in 1990, got back together briefly in 1999, parted ways again, then released a single in 2005. They’re yet to comment on whether the reunion is a one off or if new material could be possible, although Lennox has previously stated that she’s unlikely to ever tour again.
