Listen Out organisers have issued a warning to people planning on fence jumping at this weekend’s Sydney and Brisbane events, following last week’s incident.
Last weekend in Perth, 200 people tried to jump the fence with the mass attempt captured on film. A few were caught by police and security and the festival maintains only a handful made it into the festival. Four people aged between 20 and 23 were arrested at the event for charges including assaulting a police officer, disorderly behaviour and obstructing justice.
Now, in a statement to Music Feeds, festival organisers say that they, local police and festival security are on “high alert for fence jumpers” in Sydney and Brisbane.
“Extensive planning has been put into the event fencing, no-go zones as well as police and security deployment,” organisers say.
“Any organised groups of fence jumpers will be identified early and dealt with as trespassers by security and police.”
The incident in Perth last weekend was in stark comparison to the Melbourne leg of the festival where, as organisers tell Music Feeds, there were “almost no would-be fence jumpers”.
Listen Out will continue in Sydney on Saturday, the same place where a security guard was assaulted by a fence jumper and subsequently hospitalised two years ago. It will then move onto Brisbane on Sunday which will mark the final stop for the festival. Both stops are sold out.
Music Feeds has contacted NSW Police for a comment regarding their plans for Saturday’s event.
