Film Composer Jóhann Jóhannsson Has Passed Away At Age 48

Icelandic composer and experimental musician Jóhann Jóhannsson has passed away at the age of 48 in Berlin.

His management confirmed the new on social media writing, “It is with profound sadness that we confirm the passing of our dear friend Jóhann.”

“We have lost one of the most talented and brilliant people who we had the privilege of knowing and working with. May his music continue to inspire us.”

Jóhannsson earned a Golden Globe for his work on the score for ‘The Theory of Everything’ and was also nominated for an Academy Award.

This year, Jóhannsson was nominated for a Grammy for his ‘Arrival’ score, however, he lost to Justin Hurwitz who composed for ‘La La Land’.

He’s also composed the score for the Jennifer Lawrence-featuring ‘mother!’ and worked on the score for forthcoming film ‘Mandy’ starring Nicholas Cage.

He also released music outside of film and was due to play this year’s Primavera Sound Music Festival in Spain.
