Foo Fighers have unveiled their cover of Roky Erickson’s Two Headed Dog (Red Temple Prayer) to mark the 40th season of the iconic US television music program Austin City Limits. The cover was recorded at the original ACL studio during the sessions for Foo Fighter’s upcoming new album, Sonic Highways.
As most fans now know, Foo Fighters recorded their forthcoming eighth studio album in eight different american cities, including Austin, Chicago, Los Angeles, Nashville, New Orleans, New York, Seattle, and Washington, DC, incorporating iconic artists and the culture from each city into their recordings.
“If you go to Nashville, you have to talk to Dolly [Parton], if you go to Austin, you have to talk to Willie [Nelson], if you go to New York, you have to talk to Chuck D,” Dave Grohl recently explained. “It’s all over the map. We talked to LL Cool J, Guns N’ Roses, Joan Jett, Buddy Guy, Mike D, Bonnie Raitt.”
While there’s no indication that the cover will appear on the band’s new album or in any recorded form, the rendition of Two Headed Dog (Red Temple Prayer) is the first full-length track that has surfaced from the Sonic Highways sessions. Previously, the band had only shared short snippets of audio, including a blood-curdling Dave Grohl scream and a guitar lead that was later aired during a UK performance.
