Kurt Cobain would have just become a grandfather, with the late Nirvana frontman’s daughter Frances Bean Cobain announcing the arrival of her first child with partner Riley Hawk (son of skate legend, Tony Hawk).
Their baby boy, Ronin Walker Cobain Hawk, was born on September 17th, 2024.
“We love you more than anything”
“Welcome to the world, most beautiful son. We love you more than anything,” Frances wrote in an Instagram post, while sharing some images of the new bub.
Frances Bean is, of course, the daughter of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love. While Riley Hawk is the son of Tony Hawk and Cindy Dunbar. Following in his dad’s footsteps, Riley Hawk is also a pro-skater, and fronts the punk-metal band, Warish.
He and Frances Bean tied the knot in October 2023 in a ceremony officiated by Frances’s godfather, R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe.
Earlier this year, Frances Bean paid tribute to her late father Kurt, on what would have been the 30th anniversary of the grunge icon’s tragic death.
“I wish I could’ve known my Dad. I wish I knew the cadence of his voice, how he liked his coffee or the way it felt to be tucked in after a bedtime story. I always wondered if he would’ve caught tadpoles with me during the muggy Washington summers, or if he smelled of Camel Lights & strawberry nesquik (his favorites, I’ve been told),” she wrote.
“But there is also deep wisdom being on an expedited path to understanding how precious life is. He gifted me a lesson in death that can only come through the LIVED experience of losing someone. It’s the gift of knowing for certain, when we love ourselves & those around us with compassion, with openness, with grace, the more meaningful our time here inherently becomes.”
Frances Bean then went on to reveal that her dad wrote her a letter before she was born.
“The last line of it reads, ‘wherever you go or wherever I go, I will always be with you’,” she explained. “He kept this promise because he is present in so many ways. Whether it’s by hearing a song or through the hands we share, in those moments I get to spend a little time with my dad & he feels transcendent.”
Kurt Cobain tragically took his own life at the age of 27 on April 5th, 1994, leaving behind his one-and-a-half year old daughter Frances Bean, who is now 31 years old.
