UPDATE: Watch Gang Of Youths’ Stirring Cover Of A Noughties Indie Hit For ‘Like A Version’
UPDATE: Here’s What You Told Us Gang Of Youths Should Cover On ‘Like A Version’
ORIGINAL STORY: Triple j has announced that Aussie rockers Gang Of Youths will be making their second appearance on its Like A Version covers segment next Friday, and we want all your worst and best ideas for what they should cover.
The band’s debut appearance on Like A Version in 2015 saw them cover LCD Soundsystem’s ‘All My Friends’, and given their penchant for dropping stellar cover versions, the possibilities for their next Like A Version are almost endless.
So, in the name of crowdsourcing, we’re running a poll to see what you, our knowledgable readers, want the band to cover.
Use the form below to let us know what song you think Gang Of Youths should perform, and we’ll show you all the best, worst, funniest and most popular responses next week, before the band’s Like A Version is broadcast on Friday, 15th September.
To get your brainwaves flowing, we’ve got some ideas of our own:
Gang Of Youths hosted the ABC‘s Rage programme last weekend, so we can probably take some hints from that. The band curated a bunch of music videos for the show, including cuts from the likes of Dinosaur Jr., Michael Jackson, Refused, Sonic Youth, Bruce Springsteen, Radiohead, Green Day, The Killers, Kraftwerk and Public Enemy, which gives us some clues as to the kind of music they like.
The band have previously covered songs like U2’s ‘With Or Without You’, Jarryd James’ ‘Do You Remember’, David Bowie’s ‘Heroes’, Joy Division’s ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’ and a couple of Joni Mitchell songs, so we probably won’t be hearing any of those recreated for Like A Version. That said, they’re a good indicator of the kinds of tracks they like to cover.
Hit up our poll with all your wildest ideas for what they should cover down below, and stay tuned to Music Feeds for the results next week.
Gang Of Youths are currently on a national tour in support of their new album Go Father In Lightness, which you can wraps your ears around right here.
