Genesis Owusu Announces Australian Tour For 2022

There’s no slowing down for Genesis Owusu. Fresh from sweeping last night’s ARIA Awards with four of the coveted pointy bois (including Best Hip-Hop Release and Album of the Year) for debut LP Smiling With No Teeth, he has announced his biggest Australian tour to date for next year.

Genesis will perform five headline dates in March 2022, with shows booked in Sydney, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane and Melbourne. He’ll be joined onstage for all dates by his Black Dog Band, featuring Kirin J Callinan, Michael DiFrancesco (aka Touch Sensitive), Julian Sudek (World Champion) and Andrew Klippel.

A press release describes the tour as “the final headline shows for Genesis Owusu’s Smiling With No Teeth era”, so it’ll likely be your last chance to catch one of the shows based around the aesthetic world Genesis has created for the album cycle. The album arrived back in March of this year and was previewed with singles like ‘Don’t Need You’, ‘The Other Black Dog’ and ‘Gold Chains’.

“I used to get side-eyed a lot when I was younger for the way I dressed and the things I did… but all the people I loved and respected always stood firm, immovable, unshakeable, because we knew the power of who we were and what we created,” Genesis said when accepting the Album of the Year award for Smiling With No Teeth last night.

“For all those people, Goon Club worldwide, eccentrics, Black people. Know that it’s not up to us to change for people, but it’s up to people to catch up and see what they’ve been missing out on.”

Check out Genesis Owusu’s tour dates below. Tickets go on sale this Monday, 29th November at 9:30AM AEDT.
