French metal outfit Gojira have announced their first album in nearly five years, Fortitude. The follow-up to 2016’s Magma is set to arrive on Friday, 30th April via Roadrunner.
The album was recorded by frontman Joe Duplantier at the band’s headquarters of Silver Cord Studio in Queens, New York. It was previewed last year when the band surprise-released the single ‘Another World’, which will feature on Fortitude‘s tracklist.
To coincide with the announcement, the band have shared new single ‘Born for One Thing’. It arrives alongside a Charles De Meyer-directed video shot between France and Belgium.
In a statement, Duplantier explained that the song was inspired in part by Tibetan and Thai philosophers the band’s frontman read in his youth.
“We have to practice detaching ourselves from everything, beginning with actual things,” Duplantier said. “Own less possessions, and give what you don’t need away, because one day we’ll have to let everything go, and if we don’t, we’ll just become ghosts stuck between dimensions.”
The band’s last album, Magma, saw them receive their first-ever Grammy nominations in 2017, for Best Rock Album along with Best Metal Performance for album track ‘Silvera’.
