Google indefinitely suspends Viagogo from advertising

Google have today announced that they’ll be indefinitely suspending ticketing service Viagogo from advertising with them.

What this means is that the controversial ticketing service can no longer pay to have their site appear at the top of Google’s global search rankings.

As BBC reports, Google said in a statement on Wednesday that “When people use our platform for help in purchasing tickets, we want to make sure that they have an experience they can trust.

“This is why we have strict policies and take necessary action when we find an advertiser in breach.”

Viagogo responded, saying “We were extremely surprised to learn of Google’s concerns today. We are confident that there has been no breach of Google’s policies and look forward to working with them to resolve this as quickly as possible.”

This news comes only a few months after the Australian Federal Court found Viagogo guilty of misleading consumers.

Viagogo have previously come under fire from various figures in the Australian music industry, and even from the Labor Party too.

Last year, a campaign to ban the company from Australia received backing from the likes of Gang Of Youths, Laneway Festival, Tash Sultana, Amy Shark and more. The industry campaign was part of a larger Labor Party campaign to have the ticketing service removed from Australia.

Gang Of Youths described the company as a “disgraceful and disruptive scam”, Tash Sultana called them a “piece of shit company”, and Amy Shark encouraged her fans to not “take the risk of buying tickets from companies like Viagogo”.
