It appears to be the season for autobiographies written by figures from rock’s golden age. As well as new tomes published or forthcoming from Pete Townshend, Steven Tyler and Keith Richards, the recollections of Gregg Allman of the Allman Brothers Band are about to appear in print. The new book will be published through William Morrow in 2012.
Spinner reports that the book will be a revealing look at the guitarist’s life, a life that has been rich with events, even by rock’s heady standards. He’s endured the death of two bandmates including his brother Duane in a motorcycle accident, a marriage to none other than Cher, as well as the rest of the hedonistic trappings of being a rock star in the late 60s/early 70s.
Allman was also diagnosed with Hepatitis C in 2007 and underwent a successful liver transplant in 2010.
A statement on Allman’s website said, “When I got out of high school, I thought, I’ll take a year or two off and play the clubs, get this out of my system, and then go to med school… More than forty years later, I figure it’s finally time to write about this crazy journey that’s taken me around the world and back.”
World rights for the book were secured by Senior Vice President Director of Creative Development Lisa Sharkey. She said, “If ever there was a musician with a devoted fan base and an incredible life story to tell, Gregg Allman is the one. This memoir truly has it all.”
