Grimes Claims “Numerous” Male Producers Have Tried To Blackmail Her Into Having Sex With Them

Grimes has spoken out about sexism in the music industry with some gut-wrenching allegations about her experiences working with certain male producers.

Without naming names, the Canadian singer-songwriter has claimed that “numerous” men have threatened to stop working with her unless she had sex with them.

Which is, you know, straight up blackmail.

“I’ve been in numerous situations where male producers would literally be like, ‘We won’t finish the song unless you come back to my hotel room’,” she told Rolling Stone in a new interview.

“If I was younger or in a more financially desperate situation, maybe I would have done that. I don’t think there are few female producers because women aren’t interested. It’s difficult for women to get in. It’s a pretty hostile environment.”

Grimes’ horrifying claims were made in relation to a question about the unfolding situation between popstar Kesha and her producer and Dr. Luke, in which Kesha has been repeatedly denied freedom from her contract with the accused rapist.

“I don’t know enough about the specifics of that situation, because it seems very complicated,” Grimes said on the topic.

In happier news, despite only just releasing her fourth album Art Angels, Grimes says her next record is already halfway done.

Grimes was last in Aus for Laneway 2016.
