It’s been two years since Grizzly Bear announced their presence in the big league of indie rock with their 2008 album Veckatimest. Now dribs and drabs are filtering out about a possible follow-up.
Grizzly Bear set their Facebook fans’ hearts aflutter when they posted yesterday, “Towards the end of this month we head to Texas and continue writing new songs and begin recording a new album!”
That’s largely all there is to know at the moment, but Pitchfork picked up on it so now the whole world will be waiting with bated breath.
Any new album will be Grizzly Bear’s fourth after Veckatimest, Yellow House (2006) and Horn of Plenty (2004). Since Veckatimest, bass player Chris Taylor has been working with Solange Knowles and Twin Shadow for the track recorded for charity, Kenya.
Grizzly Bear also gave a new song to the Washington State Lottery, featuring a typically surreal video to accompany it. Easily the biggest Grizzly Bear project since Veckatimest, however, was their soundtrack to the film Blue Valentine, starring Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams.
A soundtrack preview of their work on the movie lurks below, complete with familiar shimmering vocals, orchestral suggestions and shuffle-style percussion.
